Yes, I admit I expected a more exciting reason for all that happened, but in life the complex can usually be explained by the simple, and Firewatch was a perfect example of this. The ending of Firewatch could not portray this any better. Lots of people played the game at launch expecting there to be some deeper mystery to the plot, and a twist around the end. Does she really not want the area searched that badly? If you tell her to give them the information, she lies to you and admits she never told them later. Further making her look like she's lying.
